SPOTLIGHT
Taj Mahal & Ry Cooder: “Hooray Hooray”
Blues legend Taj Mahal and slide guitar maestro Ry Cooder have been friends for 60 years and worked together the first time around in the short-lived band Rising Sons, and even recorded an album together 1965-1966 with that project, an album that was put on the shelf for almost thirty years, finally getting a release in 1992, Now the pair have teamed up once again for Get On Board: The Songs Of Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee, due April 22 via Nonesuch Records. The first single “Hooray Hooray” features Ry on mandolin and vocals and Taj on harmonica, with Ry’s percussionist son Joachim providing the beat. The single, new on the playlist this week is accompanied by a wonderful video of the trio recording the song at home.
