SPOTLIGHT Nina Simone: Feeling Good – Joel Corry remix

The great singer, songwriter and activist Nina Simone departed this mortal coil in 2013 leaving us an extensive catalog of diverse musical styles from blues and jazz to gospel, r&b and pop. Through the years both before and after her passing, we’ve seen a whole host of reissues, best ofs and a few dodgy collections of live tracks and outtakes. Coming thru Verve Records October 29, is Feeling Good: Her Greatest Hits and Remixes, a double album with original versions of classic Nina Simone songs, as well as previously unreleased alternate takes and new remixes. New on my playlist this week DJ and producer Joel Corry’s rework of “Feeling Good” which will no doubt be getting a ton of play in Clubland this fall. In addition to Corry, other DJ’s/producers who have contributed remixes for the album include Riton (Mark Ronson, Dua Lipa, Silk City), the Florida duo SOFI TUKKER (Lady Gaga, Rodrigo y Gabriela); drum and bass band Rudimental (Ed Sheeran, Mnek and Rag’n’Bone Man); synth pop band Hot Chip (Amy Winehouse, Florence and the Machine, Sia); Floorplan (led by legendary Detroit producer Robert Hood), and English electronic music duo HONNE.
