It’s Friday, which means its time for Spark’s music expert and iconic L.A. radio DJ Nic Harcourt to weigh in on what new music he’s got on repeat at the moment. Below, he puts Luka Kloser and Claud on your radar.
Luka Kloser’s fourth single “Lie To Me” should help transition this LA-based songwriter from writing for other people to prime time. The 23-year-old, who spent part of her teens in Europe with her Luxembourgian mother Désirée Nosbusch a TV Host and actress, and her Austrian father the film composer Harald Kloser, brings a euro sensibility and an almost orchestral approach to her piano and synth-based recordings with shuffle beats driving them forward. With a deep and sultry voice riding the super catchy “Lie to Me” vocal hook of a chorus and clocking in at a pop perfect 3:10, it gets to the right ears. This is a hit.

Claud is the mononym for Chicago-born Claud Mintz, who’s been buzzing in the NYC and LA bedroom-pop scenes for the last few years with a series of well-received singles. (Singles that made enough Spotify playlists to deliver some impressive streaming numbers.) Claud took 2020 to rework material resulting in an album recorded at the legendary Electric Lady studios, and becoming the first signing to Phoebe Bridgers’ Saddest Factory label. Mintz’ album, Supermonster, will be released on February 12, for now, check out the single “Cuff Your Jeans” on my Spark Radio: New Music /NewA rtists playlist.
